Quality performance of Verlinde motors and hoists in a mould handling facility

SIPA (Società Industrializzazione Progettazione Automazione) is an engineering firm in the Zoppas Industries group whose specialty is the production of flexible integrated automation systems. 1986 marked a strategic milestone when an American firm granted the company a licence to produce PET containers using the single phase process. The company is now a world leader for the development and supply of integrated systems for the manufacture of PET preforms and plastic containers; it is also a world performer for 2-stage preform manufacturing and for blow moulding. SIPA supplies both the large Italian groups and numerous multinationals in industries related to mineral water, beverages and prepared foods.
SIPA recently turned to Handel Sollevamenti to design a structure to lift and handle moulds used for manufacturing plastic containers for food-grade and non food-grade liquids.

Handel Sollevamenti's core business is the building and maintenance of travelling cranes. Company philosophy is based on the building of high quality products where every detail is important. "Our products are used worldwide", points out Federico Alcido, sales director of the Pordenone-based company. A success that can be explained only by our full awareness of customer needs and conditions. He notes: "It's relatively easy to sell, but much harder to advise". Our father, who set up the company, was convinced there should be an all-embracing commitment to customer satisfaction". Verlinde, whose products have a 150-year long record for high quality, also shares this customer satisfaction philosophy. "We use Verlinde motors and hoists for our projects because customers acknowledge the advantages offered by the brand: Very few parts to change, limited noise and speed, etc." points out Federico Alcido. "What is more, Verlinde hoists are robust, easy to assemble and maintenance is very simple". For this reason they are also highly suitable for export-oriented applications".
The metal framework of the hoist system made by SIPA, carefully designed for a maximum load of 7,500 kg, offers the advantage of being fully dismountable at junction points. Indeed, junctions are put in place using plates and back plates assembled using type M20 bolts and nuts (10.9 bolt grade).

The HEA 300 (UNI 5397) hoist slide rails bear at each end junction knots made of HEA 240 (UNI 5397). Bydeciding on the Verlinde EUROCHAIN VL 20-25, Handel Sollevamenti was able to reduce overall dimensions of the structure at floor level and enhance mould handling times.
Thanks to the winning combination with Verlinde, Handel Sollevamenti ensured that the hoist unit for SIPA was installed with an eye for the smallest detail to provide maximum product customization. "In keeping with our company's tradition, the production method integrated quality and precision in addition to high quality products. Results have proved us right", concludes Federico Alcido.

Verlinde's LIMITER line comprises a full range of load limiters designed for hoist units such as electric cable or chain driven load limiters

Load limiters prevent accidents when the hoisted weight dangerously exceeds the maker's or the equipment user's load limits. This switch component is vital to ensure safety for operations personnel. The "Machines" (2006/42/EC) directive requires an overload limiter to be fitted for hoists whose capacity is 1,000 kg or more.

With the LIMITER system a steel shell transmits the hoisting effort. The resulting strain is proportional to the load and is amplified, friction-free, by a sensitive component with no moving part. Then, an intermediary inverter switch either prevents upward motion or activates a warning sound when the critical load is reached. The inverter switch is fitted with an "open" and "closed" contact with a point of common coupling. Its cutoff capacity is 10 A under 250 V. The equipment's level of protection is IP 44 and can be supplied at IP 35 level on request.
5 models are available in the lmiter range. LIMITER type 1 is designed for electric hoists with 2/1 reeving to 10,000 kg or 4/1 reeving to 20,000 kg. Easy to assemble, it is designed to be adjusted and fitted to the fixed point on the electric wire rope hoist. It is held in place by several split pins on the coupling system. LIMITER type 2 is intended for electric wire rope hoists with 2/2 reeving. It is fitted with a balancer pulley used as a fixed point. The equipment is fully suitable for hoists with double wire rope wind systems. It is mounted in the same way as Limiter "type 1". LIMITER type 3 is installed without any modification of the electric wire rope hoist and without cutting the wire rope. It was designed to avoid the need by customers to make costly modifications on existing equipment. No extra part is needed for the adaptation. A rope end loop linked to the fixed point is the only operation to perform with the electrical service line. Designed for low capacity hoisting equipment such as electric chain hoists, LIMITER type 4 is set up between the hoist and the suspended ring. Limiter type 5 is a mechanical version designed to control overloads on hoisting equipment such as electric wire rope hoists, travelling cranes, goods lifts, passenger lifts, etc. The limiter is delivered at the desired tare weight to facilitate assembly by technicians.

Ex pendant light fittings are available in energy saving LED version
|
|
|
|
|
COOPER Crouse-Hinds' extended proven EVI range of explosion protected Ex pendant light fittings for incandescent and high pressure discharge lamps, includes a recently added LED version. This LED option is certified for use in explosive gas atmospheres (Zone 1 and Zone 2) and explosive dust atmospheres (Zone 21 and Zone 22), in accordance with ATEX standards.
Equipped with a bright white 32W LED module, the EV 35 LED Ex pendant light fitting utilises the latest LED technology, which provides a range of benefits for end users. These include energy savings over the life of the light fitting; high light output and efficiency; optimum light distribution for low and medium suspension heights; IR- and UV-free light source; suitable for use in low ambient temperatures; and cost savings due to a longer lifetime of the illuminant and prolonged maintenance intervals. The light fittings are also environmentally friendly, as they contain no mercury. The EV 35 LED is ideal as a direct replacement for comparable light sources such as incandescent and mercury vapour lamps.

The EV 35 LED Ex pendant light fitting can operate in ambient temperatures from -40 deg C up to 55 deg C and is certified for temperature class T6. Due to its robust and corrosion-resistant light alloy enclosure in the high degree of protection IP66 (IP67 is optional) with high impact-resistant, protective glass bowl, the EV 35 LED is also suitable for use in harsh and hazardous environments, including damp and dusty conditions such as those found on offshore oil and gas platforms, petrochemicals and chemical plants, where potentially explosive atmospheres exist. Other target industries include pharmaceuticals, food processing, grain, oil refineries, wood processing and wastewater treatment plants.
As a leading manufacturer of light fittings for use in hazardous gas and dust environments, COOPER Crouse-Hinds understands the product development phase better than anyone. The company has already invested millions of pounds in the construction of its own LED research and development centre in the USA. Built in 2008, this R&D centre combines the LED efforts of all the various COOPER lighting divisions into one common LED platform, using this know-how to build robust, reliable LED lighting systems and to constantly remain on top of this emerging technology.
Gordon Low, Marketing Segment Manager at COOPER Crouse-Hinds UK Ltd comments: "The EV 35 LED Ex pendant light fitting is a fine example of how this company is developing light fittings that bring the benefits of the latest LED lighting technology to harsh and hazardous areas. The EV 35 LED uses an energy efficient, bright white 32W LED module with integrated driver and a luminous flux of 2000 lumen. This is equivalent to a 150W incandescent or a 50W mercury vapour lamp. The light fittings are also lightweight and easy to install and provide instant start-up and full illumination, even in low ambient temperatures."
The EV 35 LED can be ceiling, wall or pole-mounted and is shock- and vibration-resistant, with no filament or glass to break. The light fittings are also ideal for low temperature applications (down to -40 deg C) that require immediate, full illumination from start up.
