PLANT ENGINEERING AND MAINTENANCE

The CEL-242 and CEL-246 brings a new capability to the range

Casella hasn't rested on its laurels since it launched the CEL-200 series of sound level meters last year to help H&S professionals comply with the Control of Noise at Work Regulations (2005). The introduction of the CEL-242 and CEL-246 brings new capability to the range, which now stands at four instruments. The new models can store time history onto an onboard memory capable of logging over 400,000 measurements. Data is stored as files compatible with spreadsheet software packages (.csv format) and can simply be transferred via USB then graphed as required with any standard package.

The CEL-200 range can display a non-decaying maximum hold value on a number of screens showing the A or C frequency weighting and slow, fast or Impulse time responses. The time history facility of the new models shows how the noise has fluctuated and allows users to understand at what point noise control measures are necessary. The equipment has a large, high-resolution display which show results either numerically or by bar graph and can give a time history trace over the last 1 or 5 minute period. Ideal for users who need a simple, low cost meter, with prices starting from £245+VAT, the CEL-200 Series is fully compliant with all national and international accuracy standards unlike some budget priced "indicators". Each meter is available on its own or as part of a full measurement kit (e.g. CEL-246/K1) with a matching acoustic calibrator and other accessories, including calibration certificates and two year warranty.

To compress or not to compress? EMKA have the answer locked up!

Compression lock technology has seemed to be rather confined to a limited range of applications until it recently came out of patent protection and now a much wider market is finding it beneficial. EMKA have had their own parallel version of this technology under development for some years and are now able to bring their special expertise in design/manufacture to provision of many compression latch variants.

However the question stands "is a compression facility beneficial and where?" Well certainly the anti-vibration role of these locks is excellent in preventing opening of panels such as on trucks, railway rolling stock gensets, aircon and heating and ventilating systems.

Similarly the ability to provide "soft" gasket compression is valuable on cabinets with EMC gasket to ensure a firm contact, or indeed on large door panels where the closure force needs to be distributed over substantial distances or adjusted to allow for manufacturing tolerances.

The result then is that EMKA customers are finding not only the benefits of EMKA quality in ¼ turns, swinghandles, T handles etc, they are also now in a position to consider "soft-close" compression technology where it may be that the different closure feel is important, or that the additional degree of anti-tamper performance confered by the over-centre design is a valuable security factor, an aspect also greatly enhanced by the recent introduction of EMKA's new tubular key/insert.

EMKA compression technology provides several millimetres of soft gasket compression and cam depth adjustment.

Fasteners and brackets enable
faster, easier mounting of linear actuators

Schaeffler Group's INA Linear Technology Division has launched a comprehensive range of fasteners, connectors and mounting brackets for the company's INA range of linear actuators. The benefits gained by using this comprehensive range of fasteners are: 1) The accessories enable faster, easier mounting of linear actuators on multi-axis handling systems for production processes, machining, handling, assembly, inspection tasks and packaging equipment. 2) 12 basic mounting brackets are available, which differ in their dimensions and fixing arrangements. There are 44 different brackets in total to choose from. 3) For location of the linear actuator's support rail, a whole range of components are available, including profiled aluminium fixing brackets, fixing lugs, T-bolts, T-nuts, hexagonal nuts and T-strips. 4) Fixing brackets can be used for mounting the support rail and carriage plate of the linear actuator. Often these brackets are used where accessories need to be fixed to the support rail or carriage and can also be used as a multi-axis mounting arrangement. 5) Steel T-nuts, T-bolts and T-strips are used to fix actuators to the adjacent construction and to mount accessories to the support rail and carriage. Alternatively, rotating or adjustable T-nuts can be used to mount accessories. 6) For easier ordering of components, Schaeffler has colour-coded the brackets and classified them according to their size and fixing arrangement.

IDEAL INDUSTRIES introduces new cable certifier series LanTEK® II

Global manufacturer of advanced cable testing and certification equipment, IDEAL INDUSTRIES, has introduced the new LanTEK® II cable certifier series that provide certification to TIA, ISO and IEC LAN cabling standards. Additionally, IDEAL announces the FiberTEK® FDX fibre optic modules that allow the LanTEK® II to certify multi-mode and single mode fibre to TSB Tier 1 standards.

The three new LanTEK® II models (frequency ranges of 350MHz, 500MHz and 1GHz) build on the success of the existing range of LANTEK® certifiers from IDEAL. In addition to faster test speeds, a 10.5cm widescreen display and improved Lithium-Ion batteries with up to 18 hours of field use, the new range still employs IDEAL's patented measurement system that provides reduced cost of ownership by eliminating expensive permanent link adaptors. The unique DUALmodeä test function enables the user to test a copper link against two different standards with a single Autotest. This makes it easy to test a link to current standards, as well as measure the performance margin against future standards with higher performance requirements; while adding only one second to the Autotest time.

The new FiberTEKā„¢ FDX modules for certifying fibre links or backbones simply plug into the adapter bay of the LanTEK® II certifier. The unique full duplex capability of the FiberTEK® FDX makes fibre certification as easy as copper certification. A single strand of fibre connected between the handsets is tested at two wavelengths and in both directions at once. Fibre length is accurately measured as well. Never before has it been possible to measure a single strand of fibre and report the length and all four insertion loss tests without swapping test instruments or connectors!

Another highlight of the LanTEK® II cable certifiers is the new IDEAL DataCENTER analysis and reporting software. The graphical interface is completely customisable allowing the user to show any test parameter in the grid, change the frequency scale from linear to logarithmic or reverse the decibel scale to show the data in any format desired, making it easy for the user to sort by any parameter possible and pinpoint tests that do not meet desired performance requirements.

"Whether you are looking for a certifier with a frequency range of 350 MHz, 500MHz or 1 GHz or a fibre certifier for TSB Tier 1 testing, IDEAL INDUSTRIES has the answer," Tony Kumeta, European General Manager explains. "With our new cable certifier series LanTEK® II and the new FiberTEKā„¢ FDX full duplex LED and laser fibre modules, IDEAL now has the most technically advanced package for copper and fibre certification and all these features come at a very attractive price. For example, our new LanTEK® II-500, capable of fully certifying gigabit installations to Cat 6a / ISO Class Ea is priced approximately 20 per cent below competitive testers."

IDEAL INDUSTRIES offers a complete package for installations, maintenance and certifications tasks on fibre links and copper systems in Local Area Networks.
