Industrial processes and control systems

Zero-based panel mounted electro-pneumatic pressure transducers

Marsh Bellofram's Type 1500 zero-based panel mounted electro-pneumatic pressure transducer, is designed to provide low-cost precision control with low air consumption, in support of valve actuation and positioning, HVAC systems monitoring, material handling systems monitoring, final control elements, pulp and paper handling controls, liquid and gas processing systems, automation systems and other high-flow industrial monitoring and control requirements. This series is available globally.

Occupying a small footprint, the compact size and accessibility of the Type 1500 to its supply and output ports, located on the front and back of the unit, allow it to be installed within space-constrained locations or in a manifold for the effective control of multiple devices.  Units also offer external zero and span adjustments, as well as a field-accessible orifice, for ease of service and repair.

Four uniquely available zero-based range output options include 0-15 psig (0-1.0 BAR), 0-30 psig (0-2.1 BAR), 0-60 psig (0-4.1 BAR) and 0-120 psig (0-8.3 BAR). These units offer hysteresis of less than 1.0% of span, with repeatability of less than 0.5% of span.  An integral pneumatic volume booster is included to provide high flow capacity (please refer to data sheet for flow data specifications).  Available port sizes include ¼" NPT, BSPT and BSPP.  Available electrical connection options include ½" NPT or BPST, as well as conduit terminal block and DIN 43 650-A connectors. The electrical conduit connection meets CE requirements.  This unit is also available in both Factory Mutual (FM) and Canadian Standards Association (CSA) approved ATEX intrinsically safe versions, as well as in a NEMA 4X version (CSA and FM approved; excludes terminal block), facilitating its use within hazardous environments. DIN rail and manifold assemblies are available in kits that provide three, five or ten mounting points.

The Type 77 industrial vacuum pressure regulator
series, from Marsh Bellowfram, features an aluminum
die-cast construction with weather-resistant vinyl paint finish

The Type 77 industrial vacuum pressure regulator series, available globally from Marsh Bellofram, is a single control unit for high-performance monitoring and control of pressures from 29" Hg vacuum to 150 psi.

Featuring an aluminum die-cast construction with weather-resistant vinyl paint finish, the Marsh Bellofram Type 77 vacuum regulator incorporates a fixed negative 15 psig bias spring to maintain vacuum outputs and controlled system pressure from 29" Hg, with flow capacity to 40 SCFM. An adjustable opposing range spring increases controlled pressure outputs. Output pressure droop under varying downstream flow conditions is minimized by the incorporation of an aspirator tube, which adjusts the air supply valve opening in accordance with flow velocity.  The dampening action of the aspirator tube maintains continuous and stable output pressure.  Units are available with 1/4 NPT, 3/8 NPT, 1/4 BSPT or 3/8 BSPT port size. A balanced supply valve, utilizing a reinforced rolling diaphragm, keeps regulator output virtually unaffected by changes in supply pressure. Stack-up construction makes the Type 77 easily serviceable, allowing for disassembly and repair without disconnecting the unit from the air line.

The Type 77 is particularly effective in providing precise vacuum pressure control within sub-atmospheric monitoring applications. The regulator may be installed either upstream or downstream from the vacuum pump. Upstream installation is preferred for applications in which the rapid evacuation of a vessel or system is required, because pump exhaust capacity is normally greater than that of the regulator. In all other applications, the regulator can be located between the pump and the vessel. Units may be either pipe-, panel- or bracket-mounted to suit particular application needs.
The new Marsh Bellofram Type 77 vacuum pressure regulator is ideal for sample collecting systems, air quality monitoring, parts coating operations, and any other industrial functions requiring system pressure control from 29" Hg vacuum to 150 psig.

Low-cost multi-range repeat ON/OFF industrial cycle timer

Marsh Bellofram Corporation's 422AR series, a multi-range repeat ON/OFF industrial cycle timer, is designed to be used as a cost-effective drop-in replacement for most 8-pin repeat cycle timers within OEM equipment, industrial process control, compressor monitoring, pump control, food processing and packaging control applications.

The Marsh Bellofram 422AR series features a wide offering of six dial selectable timing ranges, offering between 1 and 10 seconds/minutes/hours; and 5 and 50 seconds/minutes/hours, all packaged within a single compact unit. Cycles can begin with either relay energized or de-energized, depending upon requirements.  The 422AR series also features 8-pin 48 square-millimeter standard DIN housing with base mount sockets for quick and easy installation. Units are fully on/off time sequence configurable. The timer unit operates from an industry standard 20 to 240 VAC and 12 to 240 VDC universal power supply, and features 10A DPDT output contacts.  A special LED indicator provides a unique and effective flashing method for noting on and off time. Units are CE marked and UL-recognized.  With one part number across all timing ranges, the product also serves to further simplify customer inventory management and purchasing requirements.

Performance seals for use where cleanliness is critical

Pharmaceutical and food process lines which are required to operate at the highest hygiene levels, utilise pure, high temperature aggressive water (WFI) systems for their SIP (Steam in Place) and CIP (Clean in Place) processes. The operation of repeated steam recycling, however, places severe demands upon any sealing products incorporated within control valves utilised in the process pipework.

These valves are widely used to control flow, pressure and temperature of fluid media within the system. For example, some of the most critical steps in pharmaceuticals manufacture involve sterilisation with various methods including high temperature saturated steam, strong acidic or basic cleaning solutions and even strong oxidizing media such as ethylene oxide and ozone.

Dichtomatik Ltd, an official Dupontâ„¢ licensee, are able to supply the Kalrez® 6221 perfluorelastomer compound O-rings and other sealing profiles including custom shapes. These products are thermally stable up to 260°C (500°F), and also suitable for stage II sterilisation application processes where other elastomers can lose their sealing capabilities. They have been developed specifically to maintain outstanding reliability while ensuring high level sealing performance in pharmaceutical and food production processes. They maintain the validation of cleanliness-critical operating conditions and overcome degradation difficulties (chemical, thermal and/or mechanical) associated with conventional sealing materials. This FDA compliant product also reduces contamination from extractables to trace levels, has very low swell characteristics or loss of other mechanical properties, even after repeated steam cycling.

Kalrez® 6221 sealing products combine the inert qualities and cleanliness of PTFE, with the outstanding sealing qualities of perfluorelastomer. They have also demonstrated significantly reduced contamination, combined with extended seal life compared to silicone, ethylene propylene diene (EPDM) and fluoroelastomers (FKM). Full manufacturers traceability can be provided, while leakage of process chemicals, or the ultra pure water used in plant cleaning, can be significantly reduced. Because the perfluoroelastomer polymer of the Kalrez® product is fully saturated, it is also well suited for sealing applications involving ozonated deionised water.

Kalrez® 6221 perfluorelastomer (FFKM) parts were developed to meet the unique sealing needs of today's pharmaceutical processes. They are compliant with the United States Food and Drug Administration's regulations and with the United States Pharmacopeia Class VI (USP Class VI). They are successfully used by many customers for steam control valves in the presence of saturated steam at 4 bars pressure and at a temperature of 140°C.
