SANYO expands the range of dual-cooling -86ºC freezers with the launch of the extra-large capacity MDF-U700VX, an upright 728 litre model which provides maximum sample security for valuable research or clinical samples.
With two independent refrigeration systems SANYO dual-cooling freezers maintain a reliable and uniform -86ºC ultralow temperature environment. Should one cooling system suffer an unexpected failure, the other circuit will keep irreplaceable samples safely around -70ºC until service can be arranged. This, the industry's safest freezer design, not only protects precious samples but prevents the inconvenience and expense of out-of-hours call-outs in the event of a failure of one of the refrigeration systems.

These features make the MDF-U700VX ideal for storing high-value samples in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries, stem cell research and regenerative medicine, tissue banks and blood transfusion centres, and other clinical and biomedical research facilities.
The MDF-U700VX has an extra-large capacity of 728 litres without taking up extra space, thanks to SANYO's latest VIP Plus™ high efficiency vacuum insulation. In addition to reducing energy use, VIP Plus™ provides typically 24 per cent more storage capacity compared to a conventionally insulated freezer with the same footprint.
This latest dual-cooling unit offers SANYO's industry-first intelligent ECO Mode, optimising compressor operation to match the freezer's running conditions and minimise energy use. Efficient long-term operation of the freezer is facilitated by the filter-less condenser design, which eliminates the need for routine filter cleaning. The central door-mounted LCD display panel provides intuitive programming of set points and clear confirmation of freezer status. An on-board data logging function allows the operator to easily check recent freezer performance. Other user-friendly design features include comprehensive alarms, a vacuum release port for smooth door opening, and quiet operation.
The MDF-U700VX is certified as a Class IIa Medical Device (93/42/EEC and 2007/47/EC), underlining SANYO's commitment to the very highest standards of product design, quality and safety.

BioCision's significant expansion of CoolCell® product line with three new cell freezing systems
BioCision, the coolprep™ company, has introduced three new cryopreservation systems: CoolCell® FTS™30, the first large-capacity, high-density cell freezing system; CoolCell SV2 for freezing cells in larger diameter 2ml vials; and CoolCell 5ml for large cryovial freezing. All CoolCell freezing solutions deliver a controlled freezing rate of -1oC/minute in a -80oC freezer, with high reproducibility of freezing profiles and consistent cell viability and function after thawing. The patented alloy-based technology allows maintenance-free operation and is a significant alternative to conventional freezing methods or programmable freezers.

"In many areas of biological research, the ability to freeze and thaw samples of cells is absolutely critical to successful experiments. Yet, all too often, this simple procedure is subject to considerable and unnecessary variation, as well as high cost. CoolCell FTS30 solves this problem," said Brian Schryver, BioCision's Vice President of Research and Development. "Selling for a fraction of the price of commercial cell cryopreservation devices and sized to fit compactly inside any -80oC freezer, this new CoolCell makes a powerful research tool available to all scientists."
CoolCell FTS30 uses a patented alloy-based micro-convection heat removal technology to uniformly freeze 30-vial batches in a compact space. It is ideal for all cells including cell lines, stem cells, yeast, blood and other primary cells. The durable, insulated design of the CoolCell FTS30 ensures easy and safe portability of frozen cells, insertion and removal of 30 vials at once, and lids that open easily even when frozen.
CoolCell FTS30 Features: 1) Ideal for all cells including cell lines, stem cells, PBMC, primary cells and yeast. 2) Can be used "off the shelf" without any maintenance or pre-cooling. 3) Prepares samples for archive storage in four hours. 4) Sized to fit compactly inside any -80oC freezer. 5) Holds 30 screw-cap 2ml cryotubes. 6) An inner removable FTS vial module enables efficient freezing, transfer, and storage of vials in just one step.
More CoolCell Solutions Along with CoolCell FTS30, BioCision is introducing two additional products: (1) CoolCell SV2 for freezing larger diameter 2ml vials, such as Crystal Zenith®1 vials for freezing dendritic cells and other cells used in basic and clinical research applications; and (2) CoolCell 5ml for large-volume cryovials. Like all other CoolCell products, these two new additions are also maintenance-free, require no alcohol and deliver rate-controlled cell freezing of -1oC/minute in a -80oC freezer.
"The launch of these CoolCell products marks the beginning of a significant expansion of our cell cryopreservation product line," said BioCision CEO Rolf Ehrhardt, MD, PhD. "We will be releasing additional sample cryopreservation products over the coming months to meet the growing demands of cell research, cell therapy, and the diagnostic market. Our goal is to continue to deliver both performance and simplicity for sample handling and cryopreservation."
The advantages of ease-of-use, elimination of user error, and highly reproducible performance have made BioCision's products the new standard for benchtop sample management. BioCision's products are sold worldwide through distributors in more than two dozen countries in all major geographic regions. They have been adopted by leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, contract research organizations and major academic and healthcare institutions worldwide.

The Sineo MASTER 40 Microwave Digestion System
Microwave digestion is the recognised technique for the rapid solution of difficult-to-dissolve samples. The Sineo MASTER 40 Microwave Digestion System marketed in the UK by Analysco Ltd of Chipping Norton is designed for high sample throughput under high pressure dissolution conditions. Precise control of dissolution parameters is combined with a number of novel safety features and easier sample handling, all at a very attractive price.
Up to forty 70ml dissolution vessels can be loaded into the integrated sample rotor at one time and loaded into the microwave chamber using an ingenious loading trolley that not only makes light work of handling this bulky unit but also avoids direct operator contact with hot or pressurised sample vessels. The vessels are constructed of aviation-grade composite fibre material for mechanical strength with a coating of PFA for chemical inertness.
1800W of microwave power from two 1000W industrial magnetrons can generate a maximum in-vessel pressure up to 5MPa. Pressures up to 4MPa can be sustained for long periods, giving the potential to digest some organic samples up to 1.5g in weight without pre-treatment. Temperature and pressure in the vessels are continuously monitored and used to control microwave power via a rapid (1/200 sec) feedback system. A microwave homogenisation device is built into the sample rotor, giving even microwave power distribution across all the samples.
Special attention has been given to safety. The 6-layer steel spring-loaded outer door could contain the most violent explosion likely to be encountered, and the design of the sample rotor ensures effective containment of the vessels themselves. The vessels feature a dual over-pressure and blow-out system that allows controlled overpressure release while ensuring safety in the event of an explosion. The exhaust system can vent any escaping gases to the exterior or though a scrubber system.
