Thermo Fisher Scientific's new line of stackable shakers

Thermo Scientific MaxQTM 8000 series of stackable shakers offer the highest levels of performance, reliability and space savings compared to traditional orbital shakers, the MaxQ 8000 stackable orbital shaker is an ideal choice for laboratories shaking large quantities of flasks in a minimal space.

The MaxQ 8000 stackable shakers offer several unique features such as run points and set points for temperature, speed and time, displayed simultaneously for convenient run cycle monitoring. A built-in HEPA filter minimizes the chance of cross-contamination as well as ensuring that air inside the chamber remains clean. The fold-down door with ergonomically designed handle allows the shaker platform to slide out, enabling easy access for loading and unloading of samples. Safety is ensured by a flip-down handle/latch on the quick-release base, preventing the shaker from running if the platform is not secure. In addition, all stacking hardware is included so no additional accessories need to be purchased.

The chamber of the shaker is made of crevice-free type 304 stainless steel with coved corners and contains a built-in drain that keeps spills within the work area for easy cleaning. Electronic components and the HEPA filter are easily accessed from the front of the unit, eliminating the need to move the shaker during regular maintenance or service.

Thermo Scientific HERAfreeze HD ultra-low
temperature freezers for ultimate sample protection

The Thermo Scientific HERAfreeze HD ultra-low temperature upright freezer range is a new extension of the HERAfreeze® line, featuring innovative thin-wall insulation (HD) technology, which maximizes interior storage capacity without increasing the footprint of the cabinet. The HERAfreeze freezer range is available in 702 and 889 liter models, with the latter being the world's largest ultra-low temperature upright freezer, offering a market-leading capacity of 70,000 samples in the same footprint of a conventional 702 liter freezer. Furthermore, a patented refrigeration system and a robust electronics platform provide excellent energy efficiency, temperature stability and fast recovery times across the entire range, ensuring the highest possible sample integrity.

Refer to picture above: This new extension of the HERAfreeze® line features innovative thin-wall insulation (HD) technology, which maximizes interior storage capacity without increasing the footprint of the cabinet.

With a fully-programmable, easy-to-use microprocessor control system, real-time visibility and precise temperature setpoints, users can quickly and accurately monitor internal conditions. An environmentally friendly design ensures that less heat is emitted into the laboratory and minimal power is consumed to maintain a stable cabinet temperature. Furthermore, quiet operation allows the freezers to reside directly in the lab, speeding up sample preparation and minimizing exposure to ambient air to create a more productive working environment.

The highly reliable Thermo Scientific HERAfreeze HD ultra-low temperature upright freezer range is ideal for safeguarding valuable laboratory

LIMS-on-demand offers cost-effective
solution for small and mid-sized labs

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., are now offering its software-as-a-service (SaaS), enterprise-class laboratory information management system. LIMS-on-Demand allows organizations of varying types and sizes to leverage all the benefits of an industry-leading LIMS solution without the time and cost typically associated with on-premise software installation.

LIMS-on-Demand can significantly reduce the capital investment associated with traditional LIMS implementation and validation by eliminating the need for extensive software testing and installation. On-demand access provides a more flexible alternative to conventional LIMS so organizations can more easily and cost-effectively adapt technology as needs change. For the cost of a monthly subscription fee, a laboratory can easily, affordably and securely access a fully-functional, validated solution through a standard Web browser.

The intuitive Web interface enables connectivity with a variety of internal instruments and systems as well as external facilities, partners and regulatory agencies. LIMS-on-Demand offers flexibility and ease-of-use, helping organizations replace inefficient, error-prone manual processes with an automated data management solution. Customers can create workflows, map sample lifecycles and generate automatic updates while providing users with rapid access to up-to-the-minute data and information that impacts every phase of laboratory processes.

"The cost of acquiring a LIMS in the traditional license delivery model is prohibitive for many small and medium-sized laboratories, effectively putting it out of reach," said Paula Hollywood, senior analyst process automation at ARC Advisory Group. "Because of the high costs, ranging between $100,000 and $750,000, many organizations opt for home-grown systems, but the cumulative costs, including staff and capital equipment, often make these systems more expensive to develop, maintain and validate."

"LIMS-on-Demand delivers the benefits of an on-premise LIMS at a lower cost and with very little implementation time," said Dave Champagne, vice president and general manager of Thermo Fisher Scientific's Informatics business.  "With built-in workflows, the ability to capture, store and analyze lab data, monitor resources and integrate with instrumentation, we are enabling more laboratories around the world to experience the competitive advantages of LIMS."

Thermo Fisher Scientific unveils new quaternary pump

The new quaternary pump from Thermo Fisher, dramatically improves separation for complex mixtures, such as red wine, during ultra-high pressure liquid chromatography (U-HPLC) analysis. The new Thermo Scientific Accela 1250 pump features Force Feedback Control (FFC) which eliminates the need for pulse dampening while improving flow accuracy and gradient precision under extreme operating conditions.

The Accela 1250 pump is designed to operate at a top pressure of 1250 bar with flow rates of up to 2mL/min, reducing run times and improving productivity. This makes it the ideal choice for U-HPLC analysis and applications requiring flexibility between standard HPLC and U-HPLC capabilities. The improved pump also offers increased performance with significant baseline stabilization and improved retention time reproducibility. Picture shows the Thermo Scientific Accela 1250.

"We are delighted to bring enhanced U-HPLC to our customers," said Andrew Altman, director of liquid chromatography for Thermo Fisher Scientific. "The pressure capacity and operational performance offered by the Accela 1250 delivers maximum operating pressure, and the unique Forced Feedback Control redefines U-HPLC performance."

The Accela 1250 pump enhances the already powerful Accela LC, which provides fast, efficient chromatographic separations over an expansive range of flow rates and pressures.
