Compact, lighter connection solutions, to
satisfy aeronautic, military and industrial requirements

For many years, the need for more compact, lighter connection solutions, able to satisfy aeronautic, military and industrial requirements, has been growing. The rapid development of UAVs, sensors and on-board electronics, plus the emergence of composite materials, has driven the industry to reduce the size and weight of all equipment, including connectors.

The micro38999 has been shown to be more compact than other products currently available on the market, while still offering better performance in the field. Souriau was able to meet this challenge head-on, thanks to our knowledge of how materials behave at their operating limits, our mastery of manufacturing processes and our design choices for the D38999 ranges.

The combination of these three skills made it possible to recreate a miniaturized 38999, keeping the same electrical, mechanical and environmental performance as in the standard model. These new ranges will strengthen Souriau´s position as a leader in circular connection solutions.

To give an example of this exceptional performance, look at micro38999´s ability to withstand vibration of 44 Grms at a temperature of 125°C for 8 hours. At this point in time, no other manufacturer has managed to raise their miniature connectors up to this demanding level.

The electrical crimp contacts can be removed, enabling users to wire and unwire connectors directly on site. (The contacts used have a M39029 design: this provides further assurance of a high-quality secure connection.)

In addition to the traditional platings available on the market, all micro38999 connectors can be supplied with non-reflective black Zinc Nickel protection, to satisfy the latest RoHS directives.

This will enable many customers to benefit from a reliable miniature solution for their applications in severe or extreme operating environments=

The micro38999 range is available with three different coupling systems: the threaded 8DA, the bayonet-coupled 8LTA, and the push-pull type 8BA.

The introduction of this new miniature range to the market will open a new page in the history of connection solutions around the world. It will indeed make it possible to transmit just as much - if not more - information under harsh conditions, at the same time helping to reduce the size of equipment.

SOURIAU provides composite connectors
for revolutionary solar impulse aircraft

SOURIAU is providing power and signal electrical composite connectors for the revolutionary Solar Impulse solar powered aircraft, which completed a 26-hour non-stop flight in July 2010 and is working up to circle the earth without fuel only propelled by solar energy.

Through a partnership agreement Solar Impulse uses SOURIAU composite connectors to supply and monitor the 4 electrical motors powered with solar panel and high performances battery.

Manufactured at SOURIAU Champagné facility, these connectors are made of composite material with a special metallisation in order to be the lightest possible but also to ensure the highest EMI protection performances.

The Solar Impulse aircraft flew though a full night relied solely on solar energy and produced no environmentally harmful emissions.

The partnership with Solar Impulse is a reflection of the technical innovation spirit that exists in SOURIAU.

Premier Farnell sets new benchmark for board-level design
solutions across CAD libraries, PCB design and PCB prototyping

Premier Farnell plc (LSE:pfl), today announced the immediate availability of over 45,000 CAD model files for use by its electronics design customers.  The models support products from many of the world's leading electronic component and semiconductor suppliers, and used alongside PCB design tools, help designers to quickly and accurately realise their printed circuit board (PCB) design.  This development follows on from recent announcements showing Premier Farnell's continued investment in providing comprehensive solutions for engineering design from product specification through prototype.

The CAD models are available globally from Premier Farnell's element14, Newark and Farnell brands and can be downloaded by design engineers free of charge.  Designers can use the CAD model symbols and footprints in the EAGLE PCB design software to create board-level schematics and PCB physical design layouts.

EAGLE PCB design software provides a cost-effective, feature-rich development environment.  With the recently announced availability of EAGLE v6.0, free technical support and an extensive library of User Language Programs (ULPs), the availability of over 45,000 3D & CAD models further extends the utility of this popular PCB design solution.

Premier Farnell also offers the Ultra Librarian CAD model authoring software which allows PCB designers to quickly create custom models that are unique to their design in a powerful and easy to use environment.

In addition to the design software, CAD models and components needed to create the design, Premier Farnell also has expanded its solutions portfolio to include a seamless connection to prototype delivery.  The Knode on element14 directly connects users to PCB Services partners who provide quick-turn bareboard printed circuit boards in Europe via Eurocircuits, and both bareboard PCBs and PCB assembly in the Americas through Pentalogix and Screaming Circuits.

"Providing online access to this rich library of CAD models is just one part of our strategy to support design engineers in every step of the design flow," said David Shen, Group SVP and Global Head of Technical Marketing at Premier Farnell.  "On its own it already provides incredible value to PCB design engineers with this easy to use resource, but the real value comes from the seamless integration with PCB design software, CAD model authoring software and quick-turn PCB prototyping services.  This joined-up solution and global reach drives massive design flow efficiencies for our customers."

Over 45,000 CAD models available for free download with 1000s more added every month.  Seamless integration with PCB design software, CAD model authoring software and PCB prototyping to yield dramatic design flow efficiencies.
