New industrial wireless devices extend wireless range
to more than 40km without sacrificing transmission quality

A new range of industrial wireless access points (bridges) has been launched that extends wireless coverage to more than 40km for long range wireless networks. The devices are therefore ideal for a diverse range of companies that are looking to extend their industrial wireless signal coverage.

Refer to pictures on the right: The front and back view of the JetWave 2600 series of industrial wireless access points.

Korenix UK's new JetWave 2600 series of wireless access points have integrated Intel TDMA technology, enabling the devices to communicate over distances of at least 40km with high transmission performance.

There are three main models in the Korenix JetWave 2600 range. The JetWave 2610 and the JetWave 2620 are built on the IEEE 802.11a standard for wireless transmission networks and use the 5GHz bandwidth as their operating frequency. The JetWave 2640 adopts dual band, IEEE 802.11a and 802.11g standards technology. All JetWave devices support base station (AP), CPE, Relay, point-to-point and point-to-multipoint modes of operation. Comprehensive wireless security of the devices is ensured by using WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy), WPA and WPA2 (Wi-Fi Protected Access versions 1 and 2) technology. These provide equivalent level of security to that of a hard-wired LAN.

For outdoor installations, the JetWave 2600 series is protected to IP67, with operating temperatures between -30 deg C up to 70 deg C. The system is waterproof and rugged, and withstands high winds (level 17 Beaufort Scale).

The JetWave series can be powered by PoE (Power-over-Ethernet) technology, including Korenix's own industrial PoE switches, the JetPoE and JetRock series. For installations that require a combination of JetWave, JetPoE and JetRock devices, Korenix provides a complete end-to-end communication solution for customers. Typical customers include operators of railways, motorway networks and infrastructure, mining companies, dams, ports, oil and gas companies, wind energy farms, water treatment plants, energy and power distribution companies.

The JetWave 2600 series is unique in that it supports different types of Wireless Multiple Access technologies, including CSMA (Carrier Sense Multiple Access) and Intel TDMA. CSMA has seen widespread adoption in WLAN applications; however, its performance is significantly reduced as the transmission distance increases. For this reason, Korenix has ensured the high performance of its JetWave 2600 series by implementing Intel's advanced TDMA technology for longer range wireless networks, without compromising the bandwidth. Using the JetWave 2600 series' standard 23dbi panel antenna, the transmission quality is guaranteed up to at least 40km.

As Andy Cross, Sales Manager at Korenix UK Ltd explains: "IEEE 802.11b/g is the most common standards technology for domestic and enterprise wireless access, which operates at a frequency of 2.4GHz. However, this often results in overcrowded networks and frequent transmission interference. By adopting IEEE 802.11a and TDMA technology, the JetWave 2610 extends the wireless transmission range without sacrificing transmission quality. This means that customers can choose either CSMA or Intel TDMA according to their application requirements."

By using dual band, IEEE 802.11a modules on the JetWave 2620, users can either aggregate the radios to double the throughput of point-to-point wireless applications, or relay traffic from one direction to another without any degradation in performance.

For even greater flexibility, Korenix's JetWave 2640 is equipped with one IEEE 802.11a module and one 802.11b/g module. This enables easier integration of local area 2.4GHz networks with backhaul 5GHz networks.

Belden has extended its Hirschmann™
product program with a new media module
for the Switches of the MICE family

Belden has extended its Hirschmann™ product program by a new media module for the Switches of the MICE family. The new media module leads the MICE family one step further to the future.

With PTP v2 synchronization accuracies in the nanosecond range are reached, what makes a still higher accuracy possible in the entire data network. Beside so far the mechanisms, Boundary clock and Ordinary clock, used in PTP v1, was added with PTP v2 transparency clock. It is particularly meant for large net expansions and minimizes the synchronization deviations around a multiple.

The PTP modules, which are appropriate for an operating temperature from 0 to +60 degrees Celsius, are Plug and Play able and also support the Hot Swap function. The current status of the network connections is indicated over LEDs at the front.

For older devices of the MS20/30-Series a free software update can be downloaded from the address below.

The MICE Switches, which are conceived for the assembly on DIN rails, supports both Fast- and Gigabit Ethernet and also different Routing-, Redundancy- and Security Features. Thus they are suitable for the employment in industrial networks with complex applications as for instance a combined transmission of video, audio and data information in particular

The flexible, reliable, high-performance
2023A Series signal generator now simplifies
EMC and radar test set-up and procedures

Aeroflex has announced the addition of an internal pulse generator option for the 2023A Series signal generator.  This new option greatly facilitates testing in EMC and radar applications by providing an integrated solution that removes the need for an external pulse generator and simplifies test procedures. In addition, Aeroflex has enhanced the instrument's internal modulation oscillator to extend its stimulus capabilities.

2023A Series pulse modulation capability
The new pulse generator option, with a minimum pulse width of 50ns and maximum PRF of 10MHz, works with both pulse modulators available for the 2023A Series signal generators. The standard pulse modulator provides an on/off ratio of >45dB with rise/fall times of <10ms and operates over the carrier frequency range from 32MHz to the instrument's maximum frequency.  The instrument's fast pulse modulator option, which is specified from 100kHz to the instrument's maximum frequency, operates down to 9kHz, making it ideal for EMC applications.  The fast pulse modulator provides an on/off ratio of >80dB with rise/fall times of typically 10ns, suiting the requirements of radar applications. Adding the pulse generator option makes the 2023A Series signal generator a complete solution for both the EMC and radar applications.

Aeroflex has also enhanced the 2023A Series' standard internal modulation oscillator, offering modulating frequencies up to 100kHz and providing a "function generator" mode in which the user can control LF output level as well as frequency.  Effectively creating two instruments in one, the function generator mode extends the 2023A Series ability to provide stimulus for audio devices and sub-assemblies while simultaneously generating an unmodulated RF carrier.

The 2023A Series signal generator
With a host of standard features, the 2023A Series serves as a globally accepted and comprehensive signal generator. It is built upon many decades of Aeroflex's expertise in designing and manufacturing innovative signal generators. The 2023A is competitively priced and offers great value for the money. The Series includes these features: Wide frequency coverage: 9kHz to 1.2GHz - 2023A. Includes the 2023B (9kHz to 2.05GHz) and 2025 (9kHz to 2.51GHz); SSB phase noise -121dBc/Hz at 1GHz, 20kHz offset; Low spurious content; Linear and logarithmic sweep mode; Sine, triangle and square wave modulation tones up to 100kHz; AM, FM, PM, FSK, Pulse modulation; Optional high output power up to +25dBm; Class leading VSWR; Optional fast pulse modulator from 9kHz to 2.51GHz; 80dB on/off ratio; 10ns rise/fall times; Optional pulse generator; min. 50ns pulse width; up to 10MHz PRF; Optional SINAD measurement; Optional DC power supply input.
